Our Process

Step #1: consultation

During this initial consultation (usually lasting up to an hour), we discuss all aspects of your project. This step is all about you! We listen to your desires for the project, while observing the current site conditions of your property. We then discuss possible ideas and associated ballpark budgets for each based on previous projects we have completed.

From here, we will take photos and quick measurements of the space, which we bring back to the office and use to form an initial concept for you. We are happy to help you work through our ideas vs. your budget to help form a concept that works for both.

During this process, please remember the only limitation to our creativity is the budget.

Step #2: Design and quote

After setting a proper budget, comes the design. This is where we really shine. It is our goal to honor our client’s time, exceed their desires, and show them how a creative landscape design can become a reality within their budget. As your landscape designers and the highly skilled artisans implementing that design, we can help strike a balance between special materials and cost-conscious choices to create a beautiful space that meets your functional, aesthetic, and budget preferences.   Upon signing a design contract and exchanging a fee, we will perform a thorough site analysis and survey of all areas to be designed.  This includes (but is not limited to) measurements of the house and property including existing grades, locating utilities, recording existing plants and trees, noting existing features, testing soil types, recording sun exposure, climate, prevailing wind direction, existing views to be highlighted or blocked, and any other details to be noted.  We take all this information, together with your desires, and form a preliminary landscape plan.  This plan is typically a 2D scale layout of your property to quickly illustrate our proposed landscape.  Our clients have found this process to add significant value to the project as opposed to the costly services of a landscape architect. While our design concepts are consistently at the forefront of our industry, we would rather see your money go into tangible items in the space over construction drawings for installers to follow. The plan also includes a detailed quote and visual materials for all work associated in the design.

Step #3: optional 3d design

For some clients, this step is not necessary.  Many clients will use step #2 in combination with a quick meeting on the property and viewing our portfolio as plenty of information to get started.  However, some clients would prefer to fully visualize the project before construction.  We are fully capable of 3D rendering in-house, and are happy to provide this service for discerning clientele.  This allows us to virtually walk you through a new landscape before a shovel hits the ground!

Step #4: the build

The most important part, the build!  We are highly skilled artisans with a combined 43 years of experience in the field.  Having the landscape designer actually build his/her design is far from typical, however we guarantee it produces a product of much higher quality than most other companies out there.  After all, it’s our name on it, we focus on quality!  We also have the ability to quickly adapt if anything surprises us underground, without having to run through the delays of a chain of command, typical in other companies.  And yes, we are only two men, but we invest in cutting edge equipment and implement techniques to produce quality results in a timely manner.

Step #5: years of enjoyment

Relax!  Enjoy your new space with the confidence that it was built right and built to last, by true artisans!

Don’t Be Coy About Costs. Know what you want to spend and talk budget up front with your landscape professional. If you’re unsure what to budget, the American Society of Landscape Architects suggests to start with 5 percent to 10 percent of your home’s worth. The good news: a good landscape design can add as much as 15 percent to the value of your home compared to other houses on your street.

A good landscape can increase your property value up to 12.7%. The most important factor in adding to its value is if the landscape is well done and the plantings are mature.
